Mr. Jitsuro Terashima
(President, Japan Research Institute)
Born in Hokkaido in 1947. Joined Mitsui & Co. after finishing masters course at Political Science Department, Graduate School, Waseda University. Served as Head of Washington Office, Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.); Director, Mitsubishi Global Strategic Studies Institute, Executive Managing Officer, Mitsui & Co.; and Professor at the Waseda University Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies. Currently with JRI, he is also President of Tama University. Has served as member of the Planning Committee, National Land Council, MLIT; Deputy Chairman of the Miyagi Prefecture Earthquake Disaster Recovery Council; member of Strategic Policy Committee, Advisory Committee for Natural Resources and Energy; Kawasaki City Advanced Science and Technology Growth Strategy Advisory Board member, etc. Author of many books including Proclamation of New Economic Principles (Shinchosha, recipient of 15th Ishibashi Tanzan Award), Lessons in Brain Power I-IV (Iwanami Shoten), Power to Understand the World: Creation of Japan (PHP Paperbacks), and The Greater China Sphere (NHK Publishing).

Joined Mitsubishi Bank in 1967, served as head of Bangkok Representative Office, head of business development for the Americas (in New York), New York branch office manager, President of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Trust and Banking (New York), Vice President at Nikko Asset Management Co., etc. Currently Special Advisor to United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEPFI) and Counsel to Kawasaki City for International Environmental Measures.
